WhatsApp templates, often referred to as "Message Templates," are pre-approved messages that businesses use to communicate with customers on WhatsApp. These templates are particularly useful for sending notifications, updates, and service messages. Since WhatsApp aims to prevent spam and ensure a high-quality experience for users, any business-initiated message outside the 24-hour customer service window must be sent using these approved templates.

What are the different categories of WhatsApp template?
There are 3 types of WhatsApp templates:
- Utility: These templates are used for transactions and updates on ongoing activities. Examples include order confirmations, delivery updates, and payment reminders.
- Authentication: This category includes templates for authenticating users, such as sending one-time passwords (OTPs) and account verification messages.
- Marketing: Templates in this category are intended for promoting products or services, sending offers, and engaging customers with marketing campaigns.
Points to Note:
- Only the meta approved templates can be sent to a user.
- Usually, templates are approved within 5-10 mins but as per meta, it can take up 24 hrs to get a template approved.
- Only marketing and utility category templates are supported in India
- An approved template cannot be edited on the BusinessOnBot dashboard. You can only make a copy or create a new template in case you want to make some changes.
- Templates are not deleted permanently on the dashboard. Hence, you cannot use the same template name while creating a new one.
- A template can be Paused/Disabled by meta if it receives recurring negative feedback from customers.
- A Template might get Rejected if the template message does not match with the category selected.
